About

Karen Townsend explores the deep sea of the human psyche through speculative fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, and art. In nearly all her work, the same themes rise to the surface: identity, belonging, and the search for truth. Her poetic fable, “The Tree Who Saw the Sky,” won Honorable Mention in the Inspirational/Spiritual category of the 93rd Annual Writer’s Digest Writing Competition and was also selected to inspire a team of dancers, choreographers, and composers from Intonation 2023, a collaborative performance project of Arts by the People. Her work appears in Muleskinner Journal, Pure In Heart Stories, and Gnashing Teeth’s zine Making Room. Karen has an MFA in Creative Writing and a hunger to build creative community in Virginia where she writes, explores personality theory, and looks for her next adventure.
